Pima County is a virtual, synthetic photograph generated through computational modeling software. The depicted terrain lies in Pima County, Arizona—an area of the southern U.S. border heavily traversed by migrants and marked by a documented concentration of sites where human remains have been found. The work renders this tragic landscape through the distant, bureaucratic gaze of government-sanctioned LiDAR surveying. Reduced to a regimented field of depth samples, the land is reconstituted as a data-driven apparition, both precise and estranged. In its re-projection, the image stages a remote, simulated form of embodied presence, asking viewers to confront how technological vision mediates violence, erases specificity, and abstracts lived experience into quantized, machinic space.
